July 1 - Thurs. (Carla's Birthday)
Today was interesting. After learning the Dodge needed a new clutch and would be in the shop, we were on our feet for transportation. So - we walked to town (Tucumcari,NM) along the Mother Road (Route 66). Not much going on. The town survives on the Interstate and their claim to fame, being Route 66. We saw a tour bus stopped at a TeePee souvineer shop. I asked a lady. Where are "yall" from? She said England. The tour started in Chicago and ends in Los Angeles, which is where Route 66 started and ended.
Tucumcari dosn't have a Wal-Mart. I'm told it was rejected by the locals. Not everyone agrees on whether this was a good decision. We visited the Museum for 2 hours. It's amazing to me what small towns have in their museums. The history of this area is so recent as far as history goes. The Spanish, Indians, Civil War,Comancheros, large ranch owners.
We ate lunch at a restaurant that's been in business since 1965. Also, we walked 5 miles today.
